A New Edition of Henry James’s Complete Fiction: Choosing the Text

Unlike many of his major British and American predecessors and near-contemporaries – Richardson, Austen, Scott, Dickens, the Brontës, Eliot, Conrad, D. H. Lawrence; Hawthorne, Melville, Faulkner and Fitzgerald – Henry James has not yet enjoyed the prospect of a complete scholarly and critical edition, though his works have of course been re-issued in many forms over the past hundred years. Cambridge University Press has therefore commissioned a new edition of “The Complete Fiction of Henry James” in thirty volumes to be published by 2016, the centenary of James’s death, under the general editorship of Michael Anesko (Penn State), Tamara Follini (Cambridge), Philip Horne (University College London) and Adrian Poole (Cambridge). The Advisory Board is composed of leading international James scholars: Martha Banta (UCLA), Ian F. A. Bell (Keele), Gert Buelens (Ghent), Susan Griffin (Louisville), Julie Rivkin (Connecticut), John Carlos Rowe (UC Irvine), Ruth Yeazell (Yale), and Greg Zacharias (Creighton). We have assembled a strong team of editors with proven credentials, some of long standing and others more recent, and most volumes have now been assigned.
