Alexander C.Y. Huang, Chinese Shakespeares: Two Centuries of Cultural Exchange (Global Chinese Culture)
This book is stuffed full of information. That is its strength as well as its weakness. Chinese Shakespeares takes the reader on a two-century odyssey – and it is a winding road, as Huang has written it – through various translations, adaptations, and appro priations – textual and performative – of different Shakespeare plays in the Chinese language world (glossed at times as “Sinophone” and at times as “China and its peripheries”).
