Chancen für nachhaltiges Management ­natürlicher Ressourcen

Terra Preta ist menschlichen Ursprungs und unter den Siedlungsplätzen der Vorfahren der heutigen Regenwaldbewohner Amazoniens entstanden aus einer Mischung menschlicher und tierischer Exkremente und pflanzlicher Abfälle, die teilweise verkohlt (Pflanzenkohle, black carbon) und kompostiert wurden. Im Laufe von Jahrhunderten hat sich ein mächtiger nährstoff- und humusreicher Boden entwickelt.

Terra Preta is a sustainably fertile soil being a relic of preColumbian settlements of Central Amazonia by long-term deposition of inorganic (bones, ash) and organic wastes (garbage, human and animal excrements, plant residues, biochar) and microbial transformation. For practical purposes, charcoal can be mixed with organic fertilizers being microbially activated e.g. via composting. While organic fertilization and composting are wellestablished agricultural practises requiring no additional financial investment, Biochar production is not yet practiced at the large scale. For this purpose, two options are currently available: PYREG GmbH and German Charcoal GmbH.
