Doo-Sun Ryu: D.H. Lawrence’s The Rainbow and Women in Love. A Critical Study.
Doo-Sun Ryu’s study mainly focuses on D.H. Lawrence’s concept of “essential criticism”, which Lawrence first introduced in his Study of Thomas Hardy. Ryu endeavours to judge Lawrence’s novels by Lawrence’s own aesthetic standards, thereby attempting to ascertain whether Lawrence “is a clumsy dogmatist or a shrewd artist” and to show “why the postmodernists are only partly correct about Lawrence”.
