Gillian Austen : George Gascoigne (Studies in Renaissance Literature, 24). Cambridge: D. S. Brewer 2008. Pp. xviii + 236. Cloth £ 50.00.

George Gascoigne has been the subject of recent articles discussing his prose-narrative “The Adventures of Master F. J.”, first published in the semi-anonymous A Hundreth Sundrie Flowres (1573, AHSF), and critically edited by George W. Pigman in 2000. With its copious appendix of textual variants from the later anthology titled The Posies of George Gascoigne, Esq. (1575), this recent edition provides a sound basis for any further research on Gascoigne’s most popular and best known texts. However, his works before Flowres and following Posies are still waiting to be (re-)discovered.
