Medieval Medicine: A Reader. Ed. Faith Wallis

Medieval Medicine: A Reader is the most comprehensive, user-friendly, and researchinformed collection of key primary sources for medieval medicine. With this book, Faith Wallis has done for the subject what Rosemary Horrox did for the study of the fourteenth century bubonic plague, and both volumes will (in Horrox’s case, continue to) stand the test of time. Together, these volumes would nicely encompass a full undergraduate course of required readings in medieval medicine, with a focus on the plague. Medieval Medicine: A Reader would also suit a course on early modern medicine and culture, with so much early modern medicine drawn from medieval predecessors. This volume is easy to recommend more broadly as well for all university libraries and for the bookshelves of scholars and students of medieval and early modern medicine and culture (including literature, history, and religion).
