Organizational Barriers to Innovation

Innovation is one of the ways for an organization to grow and compete in this world of accelerating change and increasing global competition. At the end of the day every organization expects to develop their business and grow and improve the bottom line. The growth can be in the form of increase in market share, increase in sales or by introducing new innovative products and services. In order to stay ahead of others, organizations must be competitive and think differently than others.

The question we always have in mind and we are puzzled about is, why innovation policies and practices are not being taken seriously by organizations, even though they exists when we look at it at the organization. Even if organizations take the innovations seriously, are there any barriers within the organizations, which may inhibit organizations from integrating innovation within the work culture. This article looks at the reasons for various barriers that may inhibit organizations from developing an innovative environment.
