Short Scottish Prose Chronicles. Ed. Dan Embree, Edward Donald Kennedy, and Kathleen Daly

“Non est Scotus est Criste cui liber non placet iste / Christ! He is not a Scot who is not pleased with this book!” This exclamation, the concluding words of Walter Bower’s lengthy Latin Scotichronicon (c.1441–47), is an apt description too of the excellent Short Scottish Prose Chronicles, which brings together for the first time a selection of seven short Scots, Latin and French texts dating from the late fifteenth century and early years of the sixteenth century that take as their subject the history of the Scottish nation and its vexed relationship with the English:
– La Vraie Cronicque d’Escoce
– The Scottis Originale
– The Chronicle of the Scots
– The Ynglis Chronicle
– Nomina Omnium Regum Scotorum
– The Brevis Cronica
– The St Andrews Chronicle
