The Oxford Handbook of Medieval Literature in English
The last decade has seen a proliferation of handbooks, guides, manuals and companions to the medieval period, and to its individual genres and authors. Treharne and Walker’s weighty tome is just one of several recent contributions. The volume’s preface states that the Handbook “aims to provide advanced Medieval undergraduates and graduate students with an accessible set of scholarly essays on key themes, written by leading scholars”, and the volume certainly meets this admirable aim.
