Thomas Kühn: Two Cultures, Universities and Intellectuals. Der englische Universitätsroman der 70er und 80er Jahre im Kontext des Hochschuldiskurses.

The book under review here situates itself at the interface of literary and cultural studies in as far as it analyses English university novels of the nineteen-seventies and eighties as an important contribution to the general contemporary debate on the aims, structures and functions of universities in English society. Kühn points out that he is not so much interested in concepts of ‘education’ as in concepts and images of ‘culture’ (pp. 13–14), thus trying to set himself off against earlier studies (including the present reviewer’s) of the literary genre he deals with.
