Ulrich Busse: Linguistic Variation in the Shakespeare Corpus. Morpho-syntactic Variability Of Second Person Pronouns (Pragmatics & Beyond News, 106).

This book, based on the author’s Habilitationsschrift, deals with thou and you and their associated forms (including adjectival thy, thine and your) in Shakespeare’s dramatic and poetic works. The opening chapter (pp. 1–13) outlines the objectives of the study and provides the theoretical foundations and methodology. The next three chapters provide background material and contain respectively an outline of previous research (pp. 15–36), a quantitative analysis of thou and you in Shakespeare and related corpora (pp. 37–61), and the distribution of thou and you between prose and verse in Shakespeare (pp. 63–81).
