W. B. Yeats: New Poems: Manuscript Materials. Ed. J. C. C. Mays and Stephen Parrish (The Cornell Yeats).

The Cornell Yeats series presents “the manuscripts of W. B. Yeats’s poems (all extant versions), plays (complete insofar as possible), and other materials . . . The primary goal of the editors is to achieve the greatest possible fidelity in transcription. Photographic facsimiles are used extensively to supplement the texts.” This succinct description, printed on the dust cover of New Poems, adequately sums up the character of the series. New Poems is the fourteenth (unnumbered) volume published so far; other volumes of this mammoth project are in active preparation. New Poems (May 1938) was the last volume of poems published in Yeats’s lifetime, less than a year before his death in January 1939. It includes 35 poems, among them such remarkable texts as “Lapis Lazuli”, “An Acre of Grass”, “Beautiful Lofty Things”, the Casement and Parnell poems, and “The Municipal Gallery Re-visited”.
