William Shakespeare: The Winter’s Tale. Ed. Susan Snyder and Deborah T. Curren-Aquino (The New Cambridge Shakespeare). Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2007. Pp. xxviii + 279. Cloth £ 40.00.
This new edition of Shakespeare’s perhaps most miraculous fairy-tale romance was begun by the late Susan Snyder, who had to lay it aside when she was struck by illness; she died in September 2001. It was at her own wish that her colleague Deborah T. Curren-Aquino was asked by the general editors to take over and complete the work, of which text, textual analysis and collation had been practically completed. Snyder also left a body of notes and, with her accustomed selfless generosity, shared ideas and her wide experience 1 in conversation with her successor.
