Europäische Woche der Abfallvermeidung & Let’s Clean Up Europe

Die Europäische Woche der Abfallvermeidung (EWAV) ist die EU-weit größte Kommunikationskampagne zum Thema Abfallvermeidung. Sie ist die Dachkampagne für zahlreiche Initiativen und Projekte zur Abfallvermeidung und Ressourcenschonung. Das Ziel der Kampagne ist es, jährlich Ende November eine möglichst große Öffentlichkeit für das Thema Ressourcenschutz durch Abfallvermeidung zu interessieren. Tausende Akteur*innen setzen sich europaweit dafür ein, stellen ihre Projekte vor und klären über Alternativen zur Wegwerfgesellschaft auf. Die Kampagne vereint Projekte von Unternehmen, Bildungseinrichtungen, Vereinen, Behörden, Kommunen und Privatpersonen, die ihre eigenen Aktionen organisieren. Let’s Clean Up Europe (LCUE) ist eine europäische Aufräumkampagne, die aus der Europäischen Woche der Abfallvermeidung (EWAV) „herausgeboren“ wurde. In diesem Artikel sollen die wichtigsten Ereignisse der EWAV und von LCUE, sprich das vor kurzem erschienene Heft mit Best Practice-Beispielen, die Nominierten des auf EU-Ebene ausgerufenen Wettbewerbs „Beste Aktion zur Abfallvermeidung 2022“ und der Fotowettbewerb von LUE vorgestellt werden.

The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) is the EU’s largest communication campaign on the topic of waste prevention. It is the umbrella campaign for numerous initiatives and projects on waste prevention and resource conservation. The aim of the campaign is to interest as large a public as possible in the topic of resource conservation through waste prevention every year at the end of November. Thousands of participants across Europe are committed to this cause, presenting their projects and raising awareness of alternatives to the throwaway society. The campaign unites projects from companies, educational institutions, associations, authorities, municipalities and private individuals who organize their own actions. Let’s Clean Up Europe (LCUE) is a European clean-up campaign „born“ out of the European Week for Waste Reduction. The purpose of this article is to present the main events of EWWR and LCUE, i.e. the recently published booklet Best Practice, the nominees of the Best Waste Prevention Action 2022 competition launched at EU level and the LCUE photo competition.
